There\u2019s another bodyweight exercise that\u2019s SUPER hard, SUPER effective, and also SUPER underground. And guess what else? IT WORKS YOUR LEGS!<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHm. Ooh! Nordic Ham Curls?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Yes! But we already covered them in all their glory<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ironmaster.com\/blog\/nordic-curls\/\">\u00a0here<\/a>. And this one works the quads. So what is the name of this obscure and masculine movement?<\/p>\n<p><em>*dead silence*<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Give up? It\u2019s none other than the&#8230;.<strong>Sissy Squat!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut Coach Mark,\u201d you say, \u201csissy squats sound easy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cOh, how wrong you are.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<h3>What Is a Sissy Squat?<\/h3>\n<p>According to iron legend, the Sissy Squat got its name from fitness icon Vince Gironda, who supposedly said, \u201cThe sissy squat will make a sissy out of you!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This movement isolates the quads by eliminating hip involvement. The lifter keeps hips locked, leans back dramatically, and initiates movement at the knee joint only. Sound brutal? That\u2019s because it is.<\/p>\n<h3>How to Perform a Classic Sissy Squat<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Start with your heels elevated or flat on the floor<\/li>\n<li>Hold onto a rack or support for balance<\/li>\n<li>Let your knees travel far forward<\/li>\n<li>Lock hips and lean your upper body backward<\/li>\n<li>Descend until your knees are at least at 90\u00b0<\/li>\n<li>Push through your quads to return to standing<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The negative (lowering) phase is especially tough.
